My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.
As my [Senator/Representative] I ask that you hold fast against the DHS Appropriations bill as it currently stands. Not one additional dime for ICE/CBP! Do not allow the DHS bill to become law without strong, clear, and significant provisions that rein in ICE/CBP.
You must get ICE and CBP out of our communities, end funding for their brutality, and create clear guardrails to stop warrantless arrests, racial and ethnic profiling, and raids at sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, or homes.
As a voter, I want you to know that I am fed up with Democratic Party leaders who posture strong in public while actually cutting backroom deals to appease and please the big dark money donors who fund both parties.
Background
The Democratic filibuster continues in the Senate against the 2026 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appropriations bill that funds ICE, CBP, and other agencies. As we asked them to, Democrats are demanding that provisions reining in the crimes and abuses of ICE/CBP be added to the bill and that budget increases be stricken from it.
While the resulting DHS shutdown does not halt (or even limit) current ICE/CBP operations, it does hinder DHS and disrupt some of its activities. Which puts political pressure on the Republican Party.
At the present time, Republican leaders in the Senate do not (yet) have enough votes to squash the Democratic filibuster, so both sides are digging in. Our Democratic senators need to know that we support them, that we have their back, and that we expect them to stand firm. In a sense, this struggle to force political accountability for ICE/CBP actions is like a long, protracted labor strike – a contest of will and determination. So we need to continue urging our representatives in Congress to hold fast week after week, for as long as it takes.
If Democrats hold out long enough to force Republicans to accept some significant restrictions on ICE/CBP abuses, it will be a political check and sanction on unrestrained and unconstitutional tyranny. But if Democrats cave in and accept a DHS bill with only minor, meaningless reforms, it will signal to the MAGA regime that they are politically free to continue expanding their illegal seizure of power and suppression of our traditional freedoms and civil and human rights.
Urge your members of Congress in both chambers to hold fast against ethnic cleansing, racial injustice, ICE/CBP abuses, and authoritarian usurpation of power.
