Background
Here in California, we stand up for our values and we weren’t born yesterday. We knew the Trump administration was going to ban federal funds for transgender youth healthcare, and now they have: This CMS rule takes effect October 13. Hospitals here were already caving in advance. So we organized and got a historic $26 million dollars in our state budget to cover the gap.
However, no pathway has yet been established for its use. So it’s time to call our reps and make sure they follow through on what the voters passed.
We must light a fire under Governor Newsom and our state representatives. Californians organized for this $26M because trans youth have a right to medically necessary healthcare without political interference. Come October 13, kids on MediCal will no longer be able to access this lifesaving care unless our state establishes a pathway for providers to apply for these funds.
