Tell the Police Commission: NO DRONES!
Email your public comment to the San Francisco Police Commission sfpd.commission@sfgov.org with the subject line “Public Comment on DGO 10.12” by 12 noon 10/14.
San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has a proposed drone policy (DGO 10.12) that expands use of drones, invades our privacy, chills first amendment activity, and installs weak data retention and sharing.
We can demand the Police Commission change the most harmful parts of it.
Using this toolkit, individuals can influence the San Francisco Police Department’s drone policy by sending the Commission an email and making a public comment in person on Wednesday, October 14 at 5:30pm at City Hall, Room 400.
Note: This action is not about banning drones–this cannot be done through this “Department General Order” process (and involves larger local and state legal issues). Your email and comment are to request very specific policy changes. However, if you don’t want drones at all, please say so, so that the Police Commission knows this.
We are asking individuals to do 3 things:
1) Email your public comment to the San Francisco Police Commission sfpd.commission@sfgov.org with the subject line “Public Comment on DGO 10.12” by 12 noon on 10/14. If you can also come in person to the 5:30pm meeting on 10/14 then the email and your comment can be the same.
2) Ask other people to email their own public comment by noon on 10/14 and come to the meeting..
3) The final vote on the SFPD drone policy will be October 14, 5:30pm at the SF Police Commission Meeting (SF City Hall, room 400). In-person public comment will take place at this meeting (agenda item #6). If you make a comment live at the meeting, it helps if you also email it (see #1 above).
How to write your 2-minute comment & email
You cannot make public comments remotely for the SF Police Commission. You must attend in person (agenda item #6). Please write your comment in your own words and check to be sure you can read it aloud in less than 2 minutes. These points are just suggestions, with more ideas below. The less you sound like part of a campaign, and the more you share your own personal concerns, the better.
