My name is _____ and my zip code is _____.

As a member of Indivisible SF, I am calling to demand immediate action in response to President Trump’s unauthorized military strikes on Iran. Congress holds the power to declare war, not the president.

Thank you for supporting a War Powers resolution in Congress. You have both the authority and the responsibility to act. I urge you to:

  • DO NOT AUTHORIZE THE $200B spending request from the Pentagon to conduct an unauthorized illegal war

  • Demand full transparency and accountability from the administration by conducting oversight hearings with Department of Defense officials, including Secretary Hegseth

  • Publicly call for an immediate halt to further military action.

  • Investigate whether financial factors and opportunities such as control over the Pars gas field, or attempts to distract the public from the Epstein scandal, influenced the abrupt decision to wage war on Iran.

Background

President Donald Trump has launched unauthorized military strikes on Iran, dragging the United States into yet another war without approval (or even participation) from Congress.

This reckless escalation is putting U.S. service members, Americans, Iranian civilians, and regional allies in danger, all to advance a unilateral regime-change agenda that the American people never asked for and do not support.

We're now in week four of Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional, immoral war with Iran. Iran's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz in response was eminently predictable, but Trump had no plan for what would happen next and no allies willing to back him up. Now he's threatening yet another escalation with consequences that are potentially disastrous for the global economy and our families’ well-being.

We neither support nor condone the Iranian theocratic regime which oppresses its own people – particularly women – and fosters regional terrorism and religious fundamentalism, but the American public do not want another endless war in the Middle East. Congress has a constitutional obligation to assert its war powers immediately and block any further military action. The Constitution is clear: Congress, NOT the president, holds the power to declare war and to approve or disapprove sustained military engagement.

That authority is a duty.

Members of Congress must use every lever at their disposal: from immediate oversight, to restricting or cutting off funding for unauthorized hostilities, to investigating whether financial factors and opportunities such as control over the Pars gas field or distraction from the Epstein Files investigation influenced the abrupt decision to wage war on Iran, to holding this administration accountable and putting an immediate stop to this war. We need to let Congress know we won’t accept anything less.
