Tell State Senator Wiener - Support AB-2054, the CRISES Act to Defund the police!
Call Script
My name is _____, my zip code is ____, and I’m a member of IndivisibleSF.
I’m calling in support of AB 2054 – the CRISES Act, because it would take a much-needed step toward funding community-oriented crisis intervention services. It’s great that community organizations help vulnerable populations in emergency situations, but it’s not enough. California needs to support these organizations.
AB 2054 will help people get appropriate emergency services from trained professionals with connection to their communities. I am asking State Senator Wiener to help vulnerable Californians in crisis by supporting AB 2054.
Background
AB-2054: The CRISES Act, recently sent to the California Senate, would fund community alternatives to police crisis response. The CRISES Act directs the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to administer $16 million in grants to community organizations in at least ten counties over the next three years.
Amid the protests of killings of innocent people by police, and demands to defund the police, the CRISES act would provide urgent reform. The CRISES Act is supported by many organizations, including:
Alliance for Boys and Men of Color
ACLU of California
Anti Police-Terror Project
Berkeley Free Clinic
East Bay Community Law Center Justice Teams Network
Oakland Power Projects PolicyLink
Public Health Advocates
STOP (StopTerrorism Oppression by Police Coalition)
UDW/AFSCME Local 3930

Thank your mayor and supervisor for supporting the Board’s recommendation for a $3.5 million supplemental budget and asking Board President Mandelman to fast-track it. The lives of our neighbors are on the line, and we are thankful that the city government is taking this seriously.
Ask the Rec and Park Commission to hold off on a terrible plan to replace grass with plastic turf in Crocker Amazon.
If your supervisor is Supervisor Melgar, Chen, or Mahmood, call them and tell them: Let’s advance Supervisor Mandelman’s climate-protecting ordinance to the full Board!
We want to see our supervisors uphold the promise of SF being a sanctuary city that protects all its residents. Tell them how you feel about their vote on the RV ban.
Last week Supervisor Chyanne Chen introduced a resolution asking local law enforcement agents to come up with protocols for responding to ICE activity. Please call your Supervisor and thank them for passing Supervisor Chen’s resolution.
Ask your supervisor to hold a Board hearing to determine the extent of the practice of the DA collaborating with the Federal Government - we need to stop the DA from handing more people over to ICE.
San Francisco’s Environment Department (SFE) is charged with implementing the city’s ambitious Climate Action Plan, and yet its share of the city budget is a few tenths of a percent. And Mayor Lurie is planning to drastically reduce the amount SFE receives from the General Fund.
Urge your supervisor to support a transfer from the City's General Fund to SFMTA to prevent drastic service cuts.
