Background

Last week Supervisor Chyanne Chen introduced a resolution asking local law enforcement agents to come up with protocols for responding to ICE activity, pointing to the guidelines currently in place in Los Angeles as a template.  This is a common-sense request that is necessary in the current climate where many people feel incredibly unsafe due to the presence of masked armed men grabbing people off of the streets.  It’s a pretty simple request for local law enforcement, if called, to do basic things like ask any people claiming to be ICE agents to show their credentials, and this should have easily garnered support of all of the supervisors.

However, only six supervisors voted in favor, with Supervisors Sherrill, Sauter, Engardio, Dorsey, and Mandelman voting against it (details of the resolution and vote).

[Corrected 2025-07-23: We misread last week’s Mission Local article. The resolution wasn’t voted on last week. Five supervisors were the initial cosponsors, in addition to Supervisor Chen, and Supervisors Sauter and Mandelman joined as cosponsors in that meeting. We regret the errors.]

We need to make it clear to our city representatives that they should side with us, not ICE.

Please call your Supervisor and either thank them for supporting Supervisor Chen’s resolution, or express your anger and disappointment that they didn’t support it thank them for passing Supervisor Chen’s resolution at the July 22 meeting.
