My name is _____, I live in ZIP code _____, and I’m a member of Indivisible SF. I ask the Senator to vote against the rescissions bill which defunds public broadcasting, foreign aid, and more.

Background

The Trump regime is pushing a bill through Congress that will rescind previously-appropriated funding from a number of important services, including public broadcasting (NPR and PBS) and foreign aid. These services have already received steep cuts in the recently-passed MAGA Murder Budget for next fiscal year; the rescission bill will take away funding they’ve already received.

The 2025 rescissions package proposed by the Trump regime aims to cut approximately $9.4 billion in budget authority, primarily targeting foreign assistance programs and public broadcasting funding.

Funding Cuts
Public Broadcasting
(Corporation for Public Broadcasting)
$1.1 billion
Foreign Aid (various programs) $8.3 billion

Programs Affected

  • Global Health Programs: Significant cuts impacting initiatives like HIV/AIDS treatment

  • Development Assistance: A reduction of $2.5 billion from the total appropriated for fiscal year 2025

  • Economic Support Fund: $1.65 billion targeted for cuts

Taking this funding away from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (NPR & PBS) will force many rural stations to shut down, while the defunding of foreign aid will cause — is already causing — thousands of deaths through starvation and HIV.

The House of Representatives already passed the rescissions package. The Senate is expected to consider the measure, which requires a simple majority to pass. Congress has until July 18, 2025, to act on the package; otherwise, the funds must be spent as originally appropriated.

These cuts will harm vital programs that support global health, stability, and democracy.

We need our Democratic senators to do what they can to protect not-for-profit media and aid to those who need it, foreign and domestic.

That includes using every tool of procedural hardball at their disposal.
