My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.
I support transgender San Franciscans, especially rainbow refugees from red states and other countries. The federal government intimidated California hospitals and non-profits to abandon them. We need to step up.
You passed a resolution promising to defend the trans community. Please honor it by passing a budget that fully funds the Transgender District, trans youth programs, trans housing programs, and non-profits that serve the trans community. Please fund and expand the city’s Office of Transgender Initiatives and allow them to hire much-needed staff.
“Mayor Lurie, here’s the tea
Your budget’s killing our community!”

An empty promise?
SF City Hall, 2025 Transgender Day of Remembrance
Background
San Francisco is regarded worldwide as a queer-friendly city. We set the standard that other cities follow, poorly, so we have a duty to be the best we can be. On February 3, 2026, the SF Board of Supervisors passed Connie Chan’s resolution to reaffirm San Francisco as a Trans Sanctuary City. For cheap words, the vote was unanimous.
After a brutal 2025 budget, the 2026 budget is poised to eviscerate city services, again, right when the trans community is struggling hardest to survive. The Office of Transgender Initiatives collects statistics, gives trans people a voice in City Hall, and connects them to vital services. It must be preserved and expanded.
