Call Script

My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

I’m concerned by Brendan Carr’s growing record of censorious behavior as the head of the FCC. I’m asking the [Representative/Senator] to hold hearings on Carr’s attempts to strip away press freedom and make the Trump administration’s narratives mandatory. Thank you.

Background

We need the truth. Even if it hurts us. And that means we need a free press to report the truth, even—especially—when it’s not what people in power would like us to believe.

America is not a hive mind; we are a free people entitled to make up our own minds based on the facts.

Millions of us staunchly oppose what Trump has done in Iran and abroad. Sometimes these truths hurt our hearts, but we would rather see them than be lied to.

But blocking truth by any means is this administration’s modus operandi, whether directives come from government officials or from corporate owners bent on supporting authoritarian regimes.

Recent examples include the FCC prohibiting CBS from airing Stephen Colbert’s interview with Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico on his show; investigating ABC’s “The View” (an opinion talk show) for alleged violations of the Equal Time Rule, and threatening the broadcast licenses of stations for allegedly airing “fake Iran news”—that last one drawing bipartisan criticism

The head of the FCC, Brendan Carr, is a Trump lackey who’s made it his mission to turn the Trump/MAGA regime’s favored narratives into the only “truth” we’re allowed to hear, using all the media-regulation powers at his disposal.

Congress must hold the Trump/MAGA regime in check, and that includes defending broadcasters’ right to report the news and commentators’ opinions freely and our right to be well-informed. That starts with holding Brendan Carr accountable through Congressional hearings and other accountability processes such as investigations by the FCC’s Office of the Inspector General.
