Hello, my name is _____ and I live in zipcode _____ and I am a member of Indivisible SF. I am calling to urge Governor Newsom to proceed with his announced plans for a mid-decade redistricting of California to ensure we have a chance at fair elections in 2026 and 2028. While California voters have endorsed a non-partisan commission for redistricting, the current threat from Texas, the Trump administration, as well as the SCOTUS require we pro-actively ensure that upcoming elections are not used to silence the voice of communities of color and to create a permanent right-wing House majority.
We support your efforts to call for a special election in November 2025 to allow mid-decade redistricting of California. We ask that you continue to speak out about illegal rigging of the maps from Texas and other Republican states and coordinate your efforts with other Democratic governors around the country.
Indivisible is calling on every Democratic trifecta state to move forward with their own plans for a mid-decade redistricting plan. It’s time to fight fire with fire.
Background
Texas governor Abbot has called for a mid-decade redistricting at Trump’s request to effectively steal 5 seats in Texas, eliminate representation for communities of color, and rig the 2026 and 2028 elections. Blue states with Democratic trifectas need to counter this effort to ensure we have a chance at fair elections in the midterms and beyond.
