Call the SF office first, but try the DC office if you can’t get through. If you get voicemail, hang up and try a few more times to talk to a real person. Don’t give up! Short direct messages are most effective. Hate the phone? Resistbot is your friend.

Call Script

My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

I’m calling to thank [the Representative/Senator] for supporting the “Delivering For America Act.” But since Republicans have made it clear they are going to block all voting-rights and all emergency-relief legislation, the two most important things she can actually do now are:

First, conduct aggressive oversight and build public awareness of Trump regime crimes, malpractice, and incompetence.

Second, do everything in her power to ensure a fair and free election where every citizen is allowed to vote and every vote is counted. I ask that my Congresswoman opposes voter suppression at every opportunity, defends vote-by-mail, prevents barriers that limit people's ability to vote, exposes and combats foreign sabotage, and counters voter intimidation.

Background

Republicans have long known that when more people vote their chances of winning go down. So they have worked long and hard on both the state and national levels to limit and reduce the number of voters, particularly among demographic groups that lean Democratic such as people of color, urbanites, students, and seniors who rely on Social Security and Medicare.

Since Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 but won the Electoral College by the thinnest of margins, Republican efforts to restrict voter-turnout have increased substantially. Most recently Postmaster General DeJoy – a Trump mega-donor and political operative – has been caught doing  everything in his power to sabotage vote-by-mail because the great majority of Democrats intend to use mail ballots while the majority of Republicans say they will vote in person.

But the effort to limit vote-by-mail is just one of many ploys and schemes that Republicans are using to rig the election. Republican assaults on election integrity have become so severe, and so obvious, and the situation so critical, that we are asking ISF members to conduct a “Drumbeat” campaign by sending a message every single day (or every other day) urging our MoC to do all in their power to defend democracy and fair elections.
