¡Hola y saludos! ¡Vamos a practicar el español!
If you are looking for information about our informal Spanish practice group, you are in the right place.
In these uncertain times, we need all the tools we can muster to fight fascism and, in particular, to protect the most vulnerable among us. A lot of that work is ensuring the safety and security of our immigrant communities. With that in mind, some folks have asked for ways to help improve their Spanish to better communicate with our Spanish-speaking neighbors. info@indivisiblesf.org
We formed in November 2025 as an opportunity to allow Spanish speakers of all levels help improve their Spanish to better communicate with those most at-risk from ICE enforcement actions.
We meet on Mondays at 6:30 pm at the House of Hummus (at Geary and Masonic). Whether you just started learning on Duolingo, only took a few years of high school Spanish, or speak fluently, you are welcome to join us.
The focus of these gatherings is to practice Spanish conversation, but with an emphasis on the cultural implications of trying to create an atmosphere of safety and security in high-stress and fraught environments. These are meant to be fun and enjoyable, not just about learning.
There are other documents in this folder that discuss key aspects of social grammar, particularly within the context of protecting the targets of ICE’s atrocious behavior on our streets and in our neighborhoods. We will also work on building a vocabulary appropriate to our needs, depending on whatever form our resistance and outreach may take.
We communicate using a signal group; if you wish to join that group, please email info@indivisiblesf.org
