Solidarity for Sanctuary Party & Fundraiser

  • 1950 Mission Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

The key aim is to use our efforts and resources to support the more impacted, mostly Spanish-speaking leaders -- in this case, our Immigrant Families Committee, who set the course that our Bridge Builders Committee follows and supports.

The aim of this Solidarity for Sanctuary Party and Fundraiser is to launch two funds: a Sanctuary Legal Defense Fund and an Emergency Fund Supporting Homeless Families.

The Sanctuary Legal Defense Fund addresses the critical problem that, overwhelming, the immigrant families we serve face the system without a lawyer. In addition, the federal government has been dramatically increasing fees at every step of the process. Having a lawyer makes deportation less likely. (United Educators of San Francisco has committed to matching all donations up to $50,000 dollars, doubling any donations up to that amount.)

The Emergency Fund Supporting Homeless Families addresses the absence of a Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) in general and in our Sanctuary City in particular. Homeless families face daily expenses given their inability to store resources or food overnight in shelters. I’m excited that the fund can then serve as a prod on the potential of promoting of GBI.
