The Assembly is voting TODAY, Wednesday, June 10 on ACA 5. If passed, this bill would place a repeal of the 1996 anti-affirmative action prop 209 on the November ballot. We are asking our members to call their Assemblymembers to pass this bill.

The Board is considering lifting the curfew in San Francisco. It expires automatically on Saturday, but every day it continues is another day that police—including both SFPD officers and the officers from numerous other agencies that the City has brought in to enforce the curfew—will continue to use the curfew to repress both protesters and people going about everyday business. Call your Supervisor and tell them to lift the curfew

We support lifting the curfew, and several ISF members called in yesterday to register their support for ending it, but the measure failed to come to a vote. It was continued to Thursday.

For more than three decades, Republican and Democratic judges, lawmakers, and executives have increased immunity from prosecution for police and other government officials who have committed illegal acts and constitutional violations. “Qualified immunity”, a legal invention of the judiciary branch, is one of the ways police are shielded from accountability. The USA Freedom Reauthorization Act, an extension of the PATRIOT Act, has been winding its way through Congress. After passing the House and being amended in the Senate, the next House vote is imminent. An amendment has been added to the bill requiring a warrant for surveillance of online activity. Call your representatives to support this amendment.

The HEROES Act for more COVID-19 aid has passed the House, including significant progressive provisions. Now it heads to the Senate, where it faces Republican attempts to weaken or defeat it and Trump’s willingness to veto it. Join us in urging our Senators to defend and improve the HEROES Act.

We’re pleased with the content of the HEROES bill, which satisfies many of our demands for the next COVID-19 stimulus package. However, we have some concerns about how the aid will be applied, and the early timing of the vote. Call your Representative about these concerns.

Mayor Breed has resisted calls to house San Franciscans in hotels to keep them safe from Covid-19, instead proposing such dangerous ideas as mass camps for them. Demand that she acts to procure safe and secure housing for homeless people!

Our MoC’s cannot safely convene in Congress, but with Trump continuing his criminal activity, the business of oversight and legislation is more urgent than ever. Urge your MoC’s to enact remote voting to ensure the continuity of government.
