My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

I am alarmed by the fact that ICE agents grabbed a nanny who has a legal work permit without a warrant.  We expect the city to defend all its residents and I would like the [Mayor / Board President Mandelman] to issue a public statement explaining what the city is doing to protect its people from federal assault and warrantless arrest. [Optional: Explain why this is important to you.]

If you live outside of District 8, please also call your supervisor and tell them:

I am alarmed by the fact that ICE agents grabbed a 66-year-old nanny, who has a legal work permit, without a warrant. We have all seen the terrors Minneapolis has suffered. We expect the city to defend all of its residents, and feel that President Mandelman’s and Mayor Lurie’s statements were wholly inadequate to the situation. I would like the supervisor to issue a public statement explaining what the city is doing to protect its immigrants and people of color from federal assault. [Optional: Explain why this is important to you.]

Background

On the morning of February 13th, a 66-year-old woman who works as a legally authorized nanny in Diamond Heights was confronted and detained by masked immigration agents.  Her employer asked the agents to identify themselves and show a warrant.  They did not comply and abducted the nanny.  Her employer immediately contacted SF Rapid Response.  The lawyer who took her case quickly filed a habeas corpus petition and a temporary restraining order to secure the woman's release. Around 6:30 p.m., an immigration judge ordered her release.  She was released from a Bakersfield detention facility 12 hours after being detained.

Mayor Daniel Lurie posted that his office was “aware” of an “immigration enforcement action” in Diamond Heights and that city police were not involved.  Supervisor Mandelman urged caution in reacting to the news.

Despite City Hall’s reconfirmation of the city’s sanctuary status in 2025, city officials have yet to make a public comment on how the city will actively protect you from federal assault.

You can also contribute to her GoFundMe page, which was set up by her community.
