Tell your District Supervisor: Fight Back Against Criminalizing Access to Gender-Affirming Care for Trans Youth
Call script
My name is ________________. I am a constituent of District ___ and a member of Indivisible SF.
I am calling to thank you for voting in favor of Supervisor Chan’s February 3rd resolution to reaffirm Resolution 344-24, which declared the City and County of San Francisco a Sanctuary City for Gender-Affirming Care. I also ask that you sponsor substantive legislation to make the resolutions enforceable by law.
Background
At the February 3, 2026 Board of Supervisors meeting Supervisor Chan introduced a resolution to reaffirm Resolution 344-24 passed in June 2024. The 2024 resolution declared the City and County of San Francisco a Sanctuary City for Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, Non-Binary, and Two-Spirit People (TGNCl2S). The resolution was introduced to address bills aimed at limiting the rights of TGNCl2S people by criminalizing gender-affirming healthcare, restricting use of public bathrooms, forcing teachers to out their students and preventing youth from participating in school activities. Nearly half of these bills specifically target transgender youth and their families, resulting in reports of attorneys general from Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana and Texas demanding access to medical records to conduct investigations and threaten medical providers, therapists and parents with prosecution. This is an attempt by conservatives to carry out "trans genocide” targeting transgender, nonbinary and intersex Americans in the United States.
Prior to the Board of Supervisors’ vote on the resolution, a rally was held on the steps of City Hall. The rally was organized by Rainbow Families Action, in partnership with the San Francisco Labor Council and the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, and as part of the Patients Before Politics campaign. Following the passage of the resolution City Hall was lit up in trans flag colors.
Supervisor Chan’s resolution was passed unanimously by the Board at the February 3rd meeting. Several ISF members attended the meeting and provided public comments in support of the resolution. We need to let the Board of Supervisors know that we support proposed legislation and to let them know that we are committed to mobilizing our entire organization to help them in this effort.
