Save Your Right to Comment — and Your Public Lands (Deadline July 31!)

Using the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) as a test case, the MAGA administration (with SCOTUS backing) is attacking the separation of powers under the Constitution and rule of law generally, as noted in our April 22 newsletter. It is also undermining the regulation and guidance that implements federal legislation – specifically, by reducing your right to know and to comment for the record when the USFS rescinds provisions of its forest management guidance. This proposal (FS-2026-0067-0001), if finalized, would set a precedent for reducing the public’s right to comment on changes to other federal agency guidance and, potentially, regulations, contravening the intent of the Administrative Procedure Act and its rulemaking procedures. We can comment on this proposal through Friday, July 31, through the federal regulatory portal.

Further, the PLAN for Public Lands portal presents other open regulatory proposals affecting our public lands, which allows us to stay informed on such actions and comment wherever we have applicable experience. 

But the right to be informed and weigh in on regulatory action should concern us all. Submit a comment right away!
