Protect Reproductive Healthcare Funding
Call script for Senators Schiff and Padilla:
Hi, my name is ____ and I live in ZIP code _____, and I’m a member of Indivisible SF. Please do all in your power to remove the House budget bill’s provision blocking federal Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood. Thank you.
Call script for Governor Newsom:
Hi, my name is ____ and I live in ZIP code ____, and I’m a member of Indivisible SF. Please maintain current financial support levels for Planned Parenthood in the state budget. Voters for Prop 35 and the Tobacco Tax want this money to go to Planned Parenthood as provided for in these bills.
Call script for Senator Wiener:
Hi, my name is ____ and I live in ZIP code ____, and I’m a member of Indivisible SF. Please maintain current financial support levels for Planned Parenthood in the state budget. Please oppose the Governor’s decision to reallocate these funds for other purposes, in defiance of the will of the voters who passed Prop 35 and the Tobacco Tax to fund healthcare.
You can take action in person to directly help people who need reproductive care. Planned Parenthood clinics need volunteers to serve as patient escorts on abortion days. At the San Francisco location, volunteers operate in teams of two on Thursdays and Saturdays. You can easily apply online, and it’s a fantastic, uplifting way to serve this health need. Volunteer here and encourage your friends to join you.
Background
California voters have repeatedly affirmed support for funding reproductive healthcare. In 2016, we passed a tobacco tax that helps fund healthcare, including reproductive healthcare, for low-income Californians. Last year, we passed Proposition 35 to provide further reproductive health funding.
Governor Newsom’s state budget proposal would reallocate $1.6 billion of Prop 35 money, and $500 million from the tobacco tax, to other purposes.
Meanwhile, in Congress, the MAGA Murder Budget currently before the Senate also contains provisions that would take federal funding away from reproductive healthcare.
This isn’t what we voted for. Reproductive healthcare needs to be protected from all attempts to defund it, whether they come from Trump or Governor Newsom.
