My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

I urge the Senator/Representative to join Sen. Van Hollen’s delegation to El Salvador to check on the condition of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and to do everything in your power to resolve the constitutional crisis regarding his illegal rendition.

Background

The recent actions of the Department of Justice brushing off a federal judge’s Friday-morning deadline to provide a plan for returning Kilmar Abrego García —a Maryland resident wrongly deported to a Salvadoran prison—reveals a disturbing disregard for the rule of law. This is on the heels of the Supreme Court unanimously affirming the lower court’s directive. Instead of complying, the DOJ argued that meeting the deadline was “impracticable.”

To make matters worse, the administration has already admitted that García’s deportation was an “administrative error”. The Supreme Court has ordered them to return him to his family in the US immediately. The constitutional rights protecting Kilmar Abrego Garcia from arbitrary deportation protect all Americans. If the government can bypass courts for him, they can potentially do it to any of us. Today, Trump confirmed his administration has no intention to return Abrego Garcia to his family.

Sen. Van Hollen has requested a meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele while he is in the United States in order to discuss the return of Maryland father Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia and he announced his intent to travel to El Salvador and check on his condition, if Abrego Garcia is not returned by the end of this week.

We are asking Senator Padilla/Schiff to join Sen Van Hollen in this action to stand up for Kilmar Abrego Garcia and protect the US Constitution.
