Judiciary Postcards: Support Judge Jia Cobb, Who Is Standing Up Against Trump
Under great pressure and despite threats to themselves and their families, many judges are holding up the pillar of the Judiciary.
US District Judge for Washington, D.C. Jia M. Cobb temporarily blocked the Trump administration on Thursday, November 20th 2025 from maintaining more than 2,000 members of the National Guard deployed to the city’s streets, finding the city was likely to succeed in arguing the deployment was illegal.
Trump’s use of the National Guard for civilian police work is in violation of Posse Comitatus and is not “normal”. Trump put the National Guardsmen in danger by deploying them to D.C. without a goal and without proper training. The deployment is also intentionally incendiary.
