Indivisible SF asks the Scott Wiener campaign to take down the ConnieChan.ai chatbot and denounces the use of AI bullying in SF campaigns.
To the Scott Wiener campaign:
Indivisible SF recently learned that the Sen. Scott Wiener campaign has launched an AI chatbot website parodying Sup. Connie Chan, the other candidate in the CA-11 race. We find that this website constitutes an act of bullying that is unworthy of San Francisco and of Scott Wiener. AI is increasingly often used to impersonate people, especially women and people of color, with an aim to attack, humiliate and dehumanize them. It is an alarmingly common act of misogynists and the far right. It is an epidemic spreading through our high schools and workplaces. It is a tactic unfortunately favored by Trump and his MAGA associates.
It is appalling that the Scott Wiener campaign would not only stoop so low as to use Anthropic AI tools to impersonate a colleague in politics, but that they would proudly defend such a move to the media. We demand that the Scott Wiener campaign take down the ConnieChan.ai website and billboards, and return their focus to important issues and what the candidates can do for San Franciscans. Sincerely,
Indivisible SF
