Indivisible SF Endorses Proposition 4, the California Fair Elections Act.

Allow Public Funding of Campaigns so elections are won not bought.

In 2025, ISF fought with the California Clean Money Campaign, California Common Cause to get the CA legislature to pass SB42 to provide voters the opportunity to vote to repeal the State ban on public financing.   Now, a decades-long process has brought us to this moment when voters will decide: VOTE YES ON Prop 4 to allow Public Financing for every city, county, district  and even the State of CA. We can Fund Candidates with integrity and NO STRINGS ATTACHED. Help Pass Prop 4:  volunteer and donate. 

Although we have had public financing in San Francisco because we are a charter city, Prop 4 sets statewide standards that can protect and strengthen our city’s own campaign financing system that has come under recent pressure from the Board of Supervisors. 

In a  2024 poll of likely CA voters, 81% believe Big Money campaign contributions have too much control over elected officials. In 2025, 68% of likely California voters said they’d vote yes on the measure SB42 would put on the ballot. 

Prop 4, Sets guidelines and requirements to create a strong, organized, equitable and fair process. 

The co-chairs of the ballot measure committee are California Clean Money Campaign, California Common Cause and the League of Women Voters of California. A broad coalition of Californians, including Indivisible California:Statestrong, supports Prop 4. (See 2 pager for partial list.) Thousands of grassroots supporters got the legislature to put Prop 4 on the ballot by passing SB42, authored by Senators Tom Umberg, Ben Allen and Sabrina Cervantes and ASM Alex Lee. 

Prop 4, within a set of requirements, allows jurisdictions to pass a public financing system that will work for them, choosing from several different types of public funding options. 

Prop 4 empowers VOTERS not donors. Everyday voters and candidates have a choice to not rely on wealthy donors. Candidates from every walk of life can compete and WIN. Studies also show public financing increases diversity of both candidates and donors. 

Publicly funded candidates can and do beat big money. For example, Mamdani in NY and Karen Bass in LA won despite massive spending by Billionaires.
