People’s Budget Week of Action: Show up for OUR SF Budget 6/10-6/18
As a member of The People’s Budget Coalition, Indivisible San Francisco knows that the budget is not just numbers on a page--it is connected to our values!
“The budget is a moral document.” Martin Luther King.
The Mayor and his “good poll numbers” are key drivers of the SF Budget process. Yet those numbers are a reflection of the PEOPLE who really make San Francisco a beautiful city.
The Mayor talks about the structural deficit ($1.5 Billion over the next 5 years) like an immutable force that requires making “tough choices.” But we know that the budget is both the money going out AND the money coming in. Over the last decade revenue has not kept up with the cost of inflation. Yet the Mayor’s cuts of 20% to the most vulnerable will be very destabilizing to our city and slow our recovery. At the same time, the Mayor refuses to consider increasing revenues (for example, opposing prop D) while giving tax cuts to wealthy developers and increasing funding for policing.
We know that real power was never inside of City Hall. Our strength is in our diversity. Actions of the People’s Budget Coalition have already led to some restorations to the budget! And we aren’t done yet. We have to go beyond the “usual” with our actions with the City Government to restore ALL the cuts to the community. Come out to see and hear your power as we build toward a city that stands with the most vulnerable and protects all of our freedoms and futures.
Join us for a week of action as we fight for the people’s budget.
