Media Accountability: What you can do to fight for truth
You’ve joined us at our protests. Kudos! We will have more rallies and marches, which we’ll announce when ready.
You’re making phone calls to your local, state, and federal government officials. Excellent!
You’re attending town halls or community meetings. Your patience while waiting to make your public comment is stellar. Bravi!
These are always ongoing endeavors. And we thank you for doing your part.
We’re in our current political situation partly because of decades of escalating attacks on truth in the mass media. Bad actors are trying to drown out factual history with “alternative facts.”
The Media Accountability, Balance, and Protection group (MAB+) has a couple of ways you can fight back:
1. Write letters to local newspaper editors.
If you have never written a letter, Indivisible National’s Truth Brigade is here to help.
Here’s how these folks describe themselves on their website:
We are an ever-growing community of grassroots truth-tellers who effectively disrupt the flow of disinformation and misinformation online and offline. We do this by strategically writing and sharing powerful, personal, and unified counter-messages to the most damaging and destabilizing lies. We track our impact, learn, make adjustments and do it again–and again–together, to reclaim a civil society built on the shared value of the pursuit of objective truths.
The Truth Brigade provides an excellent guide to writing an effective letter. It is available to download and to share with others.
2. Check in with your MAGA family member and try to pierce their disinformation bubble.
Are you still/back on some form of speaking terms with a MAGA family member? If so, ask how they are feeling about things happening around us.
Need help navigating a conversation with those who may be disillusioned by Trumpism? It can be a long struggle, but sometimes it’s possible to win them over or at least ease them slowly away from the dark side.

MAB+ hopes the above suggestions will inspire you.
We are chipping away at a formidable rock. We cannot deny that the GOP’s massive machinery makes it hard, difficult, frustrating and seemingly impossible to win or change. However, we can take inspiration from those who were involved in the Civil Rights Movement, whose steadfast, persistent efforts brought about major change. When so much is at stake, we cannot give up.
