When: Wednesday, 8/6 from 6:00 - 8:00
Where: 570 14th St., Oakland
Description: Our immigrant neighbors in the Bay Area are facing new threats as they navigate an immigration system that is growing more dangerous every day. Join us in this moment to show up for our immigrant neighbors.
Bay Resistance is forming a group of volunteers to meet the requests of local immigration organizations who have asked for additional volunteers to be trained and ready to accompany adults and families to their scheduled appointments and hearings with ICE and immigration offices.
Join this training to:
Understand the need and principles of accompaniment
Learn the role of providing immigration accompaniment
Become part of our volunteer accompaniment network
After attending this training, you’ll be able to be part of our dispatch system and provide accompaniment as requests are made.
You might be a good fit for this volunteer role if you:
Have a schedule that allows you to commit to volunteer opportunities that will likely take place during weekday, standard business hours
Are able to travel on your own to downtown San Francisco and/or Concord
Speak a language other than English, including Spanish (but this is not required!)
Want to provide thoughtful support for our neighbors under threat
This project is being organized by volunteer leaders with Bay Resistance, in partnership with local organizations that provide legal and other support to the Bay Area immigrant community.
Access info: Dinner provided with gluten free and veggie options, masks required while not eating. This meeting is on the second floor of our office, elevator and wheel chair accessible
Transit and parking: We are 1.5 blocks from 12th St. BART and many bus lines
There is free and available parking across the highway between Brush and Market on 14th St., which is about 6 blocks from our office
Looking forward to seeing you there!
