The battle for Gavin Newsom's soul: Urge him to pass bills protecting LGBTQ+
Call your Governor.

My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.
I am grateful for your many years of support for the LGBTQ+ community, especially for the sanctuary laws you signed at the start of Trump's term. I was upset when you platformed fascist propagandists on your podcast, and furious that you killed LGBTQ+-protecting bills, such as one that would keep LGBTQ+ children out of hostile homes.
I, like many Democrats, want more than anything for our politicians to have a spine and to meet this moment. I urge you to show us that you are the Gavin Newsom we helped elect, the bold ally, the Newsom who stands up for the transgender community, who does not enable Republican attacks on minorities.
Show us you have a spine by signing the bills that were passed in the LGBTQ+ Caucus's Legislative Agenda, including and especially the bills to protect transgender people:
AB 678 (Lee): LGBTQ+ Safe and Inclusive Housing for Homeless People
AB 1084 (Zbur): The Transgender Records Act
AB 1487 (Addis): The Two-Spirit, Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and Intersex (2TGI) Wellness and Equity Fund
SB 59 (Wiener): The Transgender Privacy Act
SB 418 (Menjivar): Ensure Equal Access to Care for All
SB 497 (Wiener): Transgender State of Refuge
Background
The battle for Gavin Newsom's soul
And the soul of the Democratic Party.
Governor Gavin Newsom is out-Trumping Trump, and Democrats love it. But after platforming and pandering to fascists, and quietly killing bills to protect trans children, LGBTQ+ people are worried that Newsom will betray the trans community.
We beat authoritarianism by standing together, not by feeding one minority after another into the insatiable maw of the Republican party fascists.
As Californians, we must convince Governor Newsom -- with the carrot and the stick -- that it is in his best interest to defend everybody who lives here, flees here, or visits here. More than anything, Democrats crave politicians with a spine, like Governor Janet "I'll see you in court" Mills of Maine or Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, who have been unflinching in their defense of trans rights. And the Democratic coalition needs the support of LGBTQ+ people. Newsome can be a fascist collaborator or an ally.
And it starts with signing a few little bills.
