Trump May Invoke the 1807 Insurrection Act

On his first day in office last January, wannabe king Trump declared a national emergency on our southern border granting him broad powers to repel a non-existent  "invasion." (In actual fact, the number of illegal border crossings is at an historic low.) Trump's declaration also gave the departments of Defense and Homeland Security 90 days to produce a report recommending that he invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807. 

That report has now come due. Trump could invoke the Insurrection Act at any moment.

The Origin of May Day: American unions then set May 1st 1890, as a national day of action for the 8-hour day. Socialists in Europe did the same, declaring May Day to be International Workers Day. Since then, throughout the world May 1st has continued to be a day for social and economic justice movements of all kinds and issues.

Media coverage of the protests in one part of the country had been dismal, so some of the protesters there wrote letters-to-the-editor to their local newspapers and TV stations, calling them out for their failure to inform the public of the protest results. You can, too!

For the first time since Social Security was established in 1935 by Roosevelt's New Deal coalition, it is facing a real and immediate threat from Trump/Musk and the shadow brotherhood of billionaires and mega-corporations behind them.

Congress reconvenes from their recess next Monday. Nineteen working days later –  at midnight, March 14 – the federal government runs out of money. Without new funding, major domestic services and programs will shut down (military & police will continue).

One way to view Trump/Musk's ruthless trample, slash, and destroy assault on the non-defense half of the federal government is as the vicious hubris of ideologic fanaticism. But there's also a deeper strategy to their frenzy.

On Monday, wannabe-king Trump issued an unconstitutional decree through his Office of Management and B.udget (OMB) halting a wide swath of federal non-defense funding for an indefinite period. This threatens our health and safety

In his first day in office, Trump issued a flurry of executive orders that amounted to a brutal crackdown against immigrants, both documented and undocumented. To immediately jump into helping, start with remembering the immigration activists’ motto: Power not Panic! Concentrate on actions that actually help, not spreading fear.

While the Supreme Court ruled that Trump can, in fact, be prosecuted for his part in the conspiracy that led to the January 6, 2021, insurrection on our nation’s Capitol is good news, the bad news is, that the ruling creates a radical new doctrine with ominous implications that will imperil our freedoms.

July 4, the birth date of our nation, is this week. We take this occasion to remind ourselves of the vision of our country that we’re working toward.
