Homeless Families Win End to Shelter Evictions

We are pleased to announce that after six months of intense advocacy, the Faith In Action Bay Area Homeless Families Committee and their allies recently won an end to the City’s experimental policy of evicting families from homeless shelters after 90 days, and $30 million in new investments in the City Budget to house homeless families and young adults!

Thank you to all our Indivisible SF members who contacted their supervisors, attended press conferences, gave public comment, and attended the Faith In Action Bay Area Homeless Families Committee meetings.  We are grateful to have worked alongside other supporters and advocates including: Supervisors Fielder (D9), Chan (D1), Chen (D11) and their staff; United Educators of San Francisco (UESF), the Coalition on Homelessness, medical professionals, social workers, and countless other concerned citizens.

While we celebrate this victory, we know that the $30 million promised in new investments is only ~45% of the targeted investments the families noted in their plan, “Ending Child Homelessness in San Francisco: A Budget Proposal from Homeless Families.”  More advocacy will continue to be needed to keep children and families from living on our streets.
