Elections have consequences: Biden's action on our issues
Over these past four years we of Indivisible SF have asked our Members of Congress (MoC) to support our values with specific legislation and defend We the People from the evils of racism, bigotry, abuse, and exploitation. In the first five working days since his inauguration, President Biden has issued an impressive number of Executive Orders and initiatives that address many of the issues that we have spoken out on. Here is a partial list of just those executive actions he has taken on matters that we have raised in the past:
Wednesday, January 20
Extended of moratoriums on foreclosures/evictions
Extended student loan repayment pause
Rejoined the Paris Climate Accord
Revoked Keystone XL pipeline permit
Rejoined World Health Organization (WHO)
Defunded Trump's racist border wall
Renewed the DACA program for young immigrants
Ended the Muslim travel ban
Included undocumented immigrants in the Census count
Revoked the Trump administration's draconian asylum restrictions
Promoted racial equality and equal access in federal programs
Barred federal discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation
Thursday, January 21
Bolstered access to treatments for COVID-19
Required federal pandemic data-sharing
Issued guidelines on pandemic workplace safety
Created health-equity task force
Friday, January 22
Restored low-income access to SNAP (food stamps)
Required $15/hour minimum wage for federal employees and contract workers
Restored collective bargaining rights for federal workers
Provided unemployment benefits for federal workers idled due to pandemic
Monday, January 25
Reversed the military ban against transgender people
Tuesday, January 26
Curtailed federal use of private for-profit prisons
Limited transfer of military equipment to police depts.
Issued memorandum to HUD to redress historical racism in federal housing policies
