It's been 10 years since Citizens United. We see the effects. Now we can reverse it with Move To Amend.
January 21st was the 10 year anniversary of the Citizens United court decision. The decision allowed essentially unlimited, unmonitored funding to political campaigns, from corporations and even from foreign sources. The decision legitimized and legalized the deep corruption, divided loyalties, and borderline treason in our government that we see today.
It’s time to end Citizens United. But, as a Supreme Court ruling on constitutional grounds, the only way to overrule it would be through a Constitutional amendment.
The organization working on this is Move To Amend. They have a standing ask to MoC’s to support this effort, as the best and most comprehensive way to overturn Citizens United.
Indivisibles can help by calling their MoC on or near the 28th of each month and ask them to support HJR48, the We the People Amendment. Recently Rep. Anna Eshoo has joined the other Bay Area Reps who are cosponsors. We have 2 holdouts: Rep. Eric Swalwell and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. We also still need our Senators to join with the other Senators who are now developing the Senate version for introduction this year!
