The Human Banner at Ocean Beach for Saturday, October 18 is going to spell out NO KINGS! YES ON 50. With over 1,000 people already committed to portraying this message, it will most likely be larger than the 3,000 people who participated in the June NO KING! human banner that received international as well as national attention.
Human banners in which people celebrate their right to free speech are inherently non-violent. Starting at 7:00 a.m., a designated crew arrives at Ocean Beach to etch the outline of the message into the sand. By 10:00 a.m., participants start to gather on the seawall to watch the process. At 11:00 a.m., the participants descend onto the beach in an atmosphere that is both serious and festive to fill in the outline of the message. The human banner is then captured in aerial photography. At or before noon, the participants hold hands and walk to the water’s edge forming a line before disbanding.
