Aaron Hamlin, Executive Director of the Center for Election Science, will give a talk on approval voting.
Our choose-one voting method (plurality) plagues both old and new democracies. It tends to elect poor leaders while marginalizing and restricting good ideas. One simple alternative voting method, approval voting, addresses many of plurality’s failures simply by letting voters choose all the candidates they approve of. Approval voting is now being attempted in the US. If successful, there’s no reason why it can’t spread internationally.
