Call, write, email, or text your Representative and Senators and in your own words tell them to:
Vote "NO" on all budget, appropriations, Continuing Resolutions (CR), and debt-ceiling legislation that fails to include ironclad requirements that Trump/Musk must obey and execute the laws as adopted by Congress.
Hold hearings and subpoena Musk, Vought, and others to force Republicans to defend their illegal actions on the record. If Republicans block official hearings, hold unofficial inquiries open to the press and public.
Use every procedural tool possible to slow down House and Senate business and expose Republican complicity.
Refuse to vote for any committee-draft or final bill that includes MAGA poison pills that slash funding for vital domestic programs, foment hate, or enable Trump and Musk to consolidate their personal power.
Do not surrender to the threat of a government shutdown. The time to stand up against extortion and blackmail is immediately -- regardless of potential pain -- because submission inevitably leads to even greater pain and suffering.
Background
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King.
Today we are confronted with the most dangerous political-constitutional crisis since the depths of the Great Depression of the 1930s and the rise of domestic fascism. And if Trump/Musk are not stopped, American democracy will face the gravest threat since the slave-holder rebellion of the Civil War.
Trump/Musk's unilateral and unconstitutional assertion of authority to slash budgets and impound (refuse to spend) legally authorized funds nullifies the congressional "Power of the Purse." And by doing so, destroys the Constitutional checks-and-balances on which our democracy rests.
But Congress still has the power to push back by refusing to enact budget-related legislation that finances the Trump/Musk coup. As long as they try to impose tyranny, we must meet them with noncooperation.
