Call the Mayor and Rec & Park: Save Civic Center Farmers Market

Call your Mayor.

My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my ZIP code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

I am calling to oppose moving the location of the Civic Center Farmers Market to make way for a skate park.

Moving the market to the small parking lot will eliminate parking for the market and cut down on customers. Tenderloin residents, who don’t have a full service grocery store, depend on the market for access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables. It is high season when farmers need to sell as much as possible. The pandemic has been hard on farmers; moving locations furthers the hardship.

For email: Tell YOUR experience using the market and what it means to you.

Background

The move puts the whole market at risk of collapse due to the smaller space of the relocation. As there is no grocery store in the Tenderloin, residents depend on this market for fresh affordable foods. The move also comes at a time when people are really feeling the cuts of pandemic EBT.

To further put this issue into perspective: 20,672 customers used their CalFresh at the market in the last 12 months. During that same period, the market’s Market Match program distributed $2,037,232 in free produce. It is essential that the market stay—any possibility of losing the market is just too great of a risk.
