Our Call to Action in the Aftermath of the Jimmy Kimmel fiasco

How to conduct oneself
You can be courteous, or you can be firm, but no threats nor foul language—the call here is for civility. If speaking with a government official, do provide your first name, (last name may be necessary, in some cases for some officials, as well as your zip code) and specify the name of the person you wish to direct the issue to.

Context

After massive outcry, a boycott of Disney, and picketing of local ABC stations, Disney stock tanked. They accepted public demands and Jimmy Kimmel is back on the air. This is a victory we can rightfully celebrate!

We showed through people power what works in making media corporations think twice in trying to be judge and jury, and in Kimmel’s case also executioner, by yielding a censorship FCC stick targeting left-wing voices so necessary in our democracy. However we are not done! We also must pay attention to how Kimmel returns -- muzzled or swinging? Stay vigilant!

What We Need You To Do!

Understand that Kimmel is only back on Disney and cable. Sinclair and Nexstar have NOT restored Kimmel to the air!  So the boycott moves on to phase 2, which includes keeping the economic pressure up, targeting advertisers and local tv affiliates. So share this info far and wide.

The plan is as follows:

  • Keeping the economic pressure up by canceling your Disney subscription and extend further to Paramount

  • Boycotting their advertisers and let them know why. See our related Call to Action here.

  • Reaching out to local tv affiliates

Think of ways you can protest within your local communities!
Get in touch with your local comedy show venue/s and local comedians and ask them to dedicate a series of shows; subject matter: supporting Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and free speech in general.

Ask your local TV networks to broadcast such efforts.

Call or write to the National Association of Comedians and tell them to organize a national collaboration with many comedians, akin to the aid relief effort done decades ago for Africa!

(732) 229-0084

Tell them to use their comedic wit and fight fascism!  They can do it and you can share some fascist jokes on social media.  We continue fighting using comedy!

And lastly, you can also respond to what the media is doing right or wrong by writing a Letter to the Editor. Don’t know how?  Follow this outline from Indivisible National:
How to Write Letters to the Editor that Really Get Attention
