My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.

We’ve already seen destructive statements and behaviors designed to threaten, intimidate and discourage voters and to subvert the public trust in elections and American democracy. I ask you to vocally oppose, and use your powers to immediately halt, any instances of voter intimidation on election day. Iask you to quickly speak out and counter any efforts to mislead, confuse, or trick voters. You must make it clear that election interference is illegal and that the government will not allow it.

I further ask you to join us in educating the public that the true results take time, because they require every vote to be counted; that the true results will not be known on Election Night; and that election officials are bound by law and duty to count every eligible voter’s vote and communicate the true result of the election only after every vote is counted.

Background

Voting ends Nov. 3, but don’t expect results that night. The results will only be known after every vote is counted, and that will take days or weeks.

Early projections by the media are often wrong, as we saw all over the country in 2018. Counting every vote—particularly when there’s a surge in voting, as there is this year—takes time. So ignore the “projected winners” of “Election Night”; wait for officials to #CountEveryVote, because only then can we know the true results.

Trump and his Republican cronies might try to intimidate Democratic voters on election day. They might claim victory based on the early count of in-person ballots, ignoring or rejecting the votes cast by mail. We need to be ready to respond, if they prematurely declare victory or try to halt the counting of mail-in ballots.

If Trump tries to subvert the results of the election, we will mobilize a nonviolent resistance to defend our democracy and protect the results. We need you to be part of our mobilization.

A “Protect the Results” rally has been called for November 4th at 3pm at Embarcadero Plaza. Our goal is to inform voters about our Count Every Vote message and to inform the public how to mobilize in case Trump/Republicans try to undermine the results.
