Below are legal resources for active duty personnel who feel they were given or worry about being given an unlawful order and do not wish to comply.
GI Rights Hotline (1-877-447-4487): GI Rights Hotline provides individual representation to GI’s and veterans and their advocates, and collaborates on challenges to oppressive military policies.
NLG Military Law Task Force: The Military Law Task Force is a legal advocate for servicemembers and veterans.
NLG, SF Bay Area, Bay Area Military Law Committee: The National Lawyers Guild supports progressive resistance within the United States military and provides assistance to service members and veterans experiencing abusive treatment. The NLGSF Bay Area Military Law Panel is the local working group of the national Military Law Task Force. The Bay Area Military Law Panel is composed of lawyers, law students and legal workers. Committee members support the GI Rights Hotline, provide individual representation to GI’s and veterans and their advocates, and collaborate on challenges to oppressive military policies. We recently assisted National Guard members who support the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.
About Face: Veterans Against the War: Offers a Troop Report and Support Request secure form that members of the military can use to report concerning incidents or conditions, as well as request peer or legal support to explore their options in the event they have concerns about the moral, ethical, and/or legal implications of their situation.
