Indivisible SF joins five other groups to protect the Trans community - SB 497
Indivisible SF recently joined four other Indivisible groups (representing Sacramento, San Jose, the East Bay, and Mariposa/Yosemite Area), as well as the Coalition Against Project 2025, to submit a letter of support for CA State Senate bill SB497. This law would enact protections for patient privacy, with the intention of protecting people receiving gender-affirming care.
Currently out-of-state law enforcement is able to access some medical records (including hormone prescriptions) without a warrant or subpoena. Given the level of attacks trans people are currently facing from the Federal government, this is a very important piece of legislation to protect California’s trans community, many of whom came here because California is meant to be a sanctuary state.
