Report Back on Kevin Mullin's Town Hall
<One of our members attended House Representative Kevin Mullin’s Town Hall on March 20, 2025. Here’s their report back.>
I attended the Rep Kevin Mullin Town Hall last night in Belmont. The energy of the crowd was palpable - lots of scared, anxious, and empowered people ready to fight the good fight. Some people were even visibly shaking while waiting in line. One woman held a large American flag upside down.
Representative Mullin’s message to the crowd during the town hall seemed to have a lot of contradictions.
He painted a picture of the federal government acting as an authoritarian regime but said we are not yet in a constitutional crisis. The crowd disagreed with that.
He said he would do what it takes to keep our democracy, but when pressed later about not being disruptive enough - he said he believed in decorum. The crowd was disappointed with that comment.
He said that the Dems have a 29% approval rating, which is relevant to being the minority party, but also agreed that Democrats have not kept up with the needs of the working-class families.
He plans to introduce a “poverty line” act but suspects it won’t go anywhere given the state of the House of Reps.
He was surprised that many in the crowd felt the Dems were not doing enough to fight back and wondered why the messaging wasn’t getting out enough to the people. He felt the Dems were doing a lot.
Several speakers voiced their concerns that there is no one Democratic Leader in the Party that both the people and the party could get behind. Many in the crowd shouted out AOC’s name, but he didn’t acknowledge her name.
He admitted that it is triage in Congress right now, but once elections happen and they have the majority again, they can pass legislation to help - some people in the crowd believed him, others voiced concerns that there might not be a fair election ahead.
