Thank you for coming to Civics-travaganza!

Sunday, September 14: Civics-travaganza in Civic Center Plaza. Indivisible SF and 50501SF organized a community fair to mark a series of days that celebrate ideas fundamental to America: International Democracy Day, on September 15; National Voter Registration Day, September 16; and Constitution Day, September 17. Thank you to our partners the Golden Gate fREADom Writers, Federal Unionists Network, National Active and Retired Federal Employees, and the League of Women Voters, who tabled alongside ISF’s working groups on the Judiciary, Immigration, and State/Local Action.

We started off the event with St Gabriel’s Celestial Brass Band, who paraded around the block to herald the opening of the fair. Locals and tourists came by to talk with our various tablers about the purpose of Proposition 50, how to show support for judges and lawyers who stay true to the Constitution and the law, getting out the vote and being registered to vote yourself, and the importance of solidarity, both among workers who power this country, and among all people who wish to exercise rights and freedoms granted by the Constitution, including those not dependent on citizen status.

These kinds of topics were also the subject of open discussion at our talking circle, where everyone was able to share their thoughts and historical examples and impressions of our current moment. People gravitated toward the art station’s many projects: in addition to sign-making, the collaborative “Defend Democracy” banner.
