Take Action on the Budget: Save Medicaid, Defund DOGE, Play Hardball

It’s the time of budget reconciliation, when Congress decides how to allocate our hard-earned money into programs and services. Well, that’s usually the case, but as you may have heard from Indivisible National, their current objective is to slash Medicaid and other critical services while giving money to DOGE and cutting taxes for the rich.

We are following Indivisible’s call to do everything we can to halt this terrible budget, which will have disastrous consequences for the nation’s poor. Below are some things you can do now.

Tell Congress: Defund DOGE thieves in the budget reconciliation bill!

Early in the Trump Administration, he corrupted the US Digital Service by replacing it with a fake department called the “Department of Government Efficiency,” headed by billionaire Elon Musk, and tasking DOGE with stealing our data and destroying our government from the inside.

They have snatched personal data about residents of the United States from dozens of federal databases, including databases managed by Social Security, the IRS, and the Department of Health and Human Services (the Department that oversees Medicare and Medicaid), and are combining it all into one big database at the Department of Homeland Security—exactly as privacy advocates warned about back when DHS was first created.

In the current lawsuits against DOGE, they’ve been evasive about what happens with data that DOGE thieves have already stolen. And even if you fully trust Trump’s Department of Homeland Security to use this terrifying list responsibly, any database like this can be stolen—especially when it’s already been cracked open by intruders like the thieves from DOGE.

Tell your Members of Congress: Use your power of the purse to bust the DOGE data-theft ring once and for all.

Tell voters in red states: Pressure YOUR Congressmembers to vote NO on the budget.

With Indivisible National and the California Democratic Party, phone bank to red states with vulnerable electeds, and tell them to vote NO on Medicaid cuts:

Phone Bank to California CD 22 (Rep. Valadao’s district): RSVP on Mobilize

Phone Bank to California CD 40 (Rep. Kim’s district): RSVP on Mobilize

Phone Bank to North Carolina (Sen. Thom Tillis’s state): RSVP on Mobilize

Learn What Congressional Democrats Should Be Doing

When Democrats are in the majority, Republicans use hardball tactics to oppose, resist, delay, and derail legislation that favors We the People over mega-corporations and billionaires. But when Republicans control Congress, Democrats seem strangely reluctant to do as was done unto them to defend democracy and oppose racism, white nationalism, misogyny, bigotry, and greed. They say there is nothing they can do to stop or slow the MAGA regime's legislative juggernaut, so nothing is just what they do.

They need to do their job. They need to represent us

Here are some things they can do if they find the gumption:

  1. Filibuster to block passage of bills.

  2. Filibuster to Obstruct.

  3. Quorum Call and roll call.

  4. Maximize debate.

  5. Deny Unanimous Consent.

  6. Amendments to Legislation

  7. Delay business with Committee Rules…

…and so much more. To read more on the hardball tactics we want our MoCs to use, read more on our blog.
