Accountability is one part of the problem with the media today. We certainly need facts presented, and we welcome opinion in our media landscape. Each requires fairness and honesty. A measure of favoritism is not necessarily a bad thing, but outright disinformation or heavily skewed reporting and commentary blinds too many to the dark muddy world of propaganda or deeply stuck in the swampland of extreme conspiracy theories.

These dangerous arenas impact public perception and beliefs, which we’ve seen turn violent as on January 6th 2021. Disinformation has impacted voting decisions, legislation and who sits in the highest office of our land every 4 years!
We’ve heard the sad stories after the 2024 election of fractured relationships, contentious family disagreements resulting in members saying “no” to Thanksgiving and holiday get-togethers. And who by now has not heard nor seen the trending #FAFO video clips of regret?  One highly recommended clip is this one below. Why? In it, a wise and compassionate farmer understands the factors which have led way too many GOP voters astray, particularly in rural America.

Do give it a listen and share with those who may benefit from seeing it.

We have many issues ahead of us to examine, question and advocate for. The success of disinformation from the right-wing media in the United States, a weapon of choice in political warfare, is unfortunately effective, even abroad. The global implications are huge. And there is no rest for the weary. As advancements in artificial intelligence progresses, would we be kidding ourselves in thinking what we are up against today will not be a problem tomorrow and could very well lead to further ramifications including to our own national security?

If you are someone who believes that mass communication (print, broadcast, social media, and other forms) is putting democracies at risk, consider joining us. No. Correction. DO JOIN US at the Media Accountability and Balance group at Indivisible SF!

This is a new ISF breakout group. We had our first orientation meeting in January and a second just last week. Come. You are just in time!
