Joe has our back, so we have his

Two weeks ago, President Biden appeared in a miserable ninety-minute debate on CNN against Trump. Those of us who saw it know it wasn’t our president’s finest hour: Biden’s cold gave him a sore throat and brought out the president’s lifelong stutter, while his predecessor proudly gish-galloped through barrels of lies.

Still, the media’s response quickly exceeded any measure of proportion, as our president was dragged through the mud and hounded to drop out for two weeks straight in print and on TV. While many viewers said that the debate had not changed how they’ll vote this fall, the media gave us a steady stream of columnists, famous millionaire donors, and even a few Members of Congress saying that, 120 days before the election, the choice of Democratic primary voters in every single state should be replaced with somebody else. (We should note that more Members of Congress have called for President Biden to stay in the race than for him to leave it, not that you would know this from media coverage.)

Democratic voters chose the Biden-Harris ticket in this year’s primary elections, and most of these Democratic voters are sticking with Biden at the top of the ticket. Apparently the corporate media and the figures they’re promoting see this as a problem for them to fix on our behalf.

Why were millionaire donors and cable TV pundits so eager to cast President Biden aside? The sincere part of it is their fear—the same fear we have—of the destructive plans of MAGA Republicans. The other reason is because the Biden-Harris administration has been prioritizing workers: rebuilding the middle class through Bidenomics, strengthening worker protections, infrastructure upgrades that create more union jobs, environmental justice projects, debt relief for millions of people, women’s health initiatives, and plans for more progressive taxation. As we the people and trade unions are giving more and becoming more active, big donors feel like they’re losing their power.

We won’t let these figures divide the progressive coalition against itself. As long as President Biden, the people’s nominee, remains in the race, he remains our candidate to stop the MAGA Republicans and continue defending freedom and building prosperity in America. Let’s have his back!
