ADEM election 2023: Register to vote by Dec 31
Build progressive power from the ground up by voting for your California Assembly District Delegates
California Democratic Assembly District Delegates (AD delegates) are responsible for working within the Democratic State Central Committee to represent their community.
There are 14 delegates from each California assembly district. The delegates elected in each district represent the district in the Democratic Party conventions; those elected in the coming year will be your district’s representatives in 2023 and 2024.
AD Delegates vote within the CA Democratic Party on behalf of the community they represent. They can affect important California Democratic Party initiatives such as:
Ballot proposition endorsements
Electing California Democratic officers, including the Chair
Endorsements for statewide offices
The California Democratic State Party platform
AD Delegates play a crucial role in what values the California Democratic party represents. Even with a Democratic trifecta in our state government, we all know from experience that Democrats sometimes block progressive initiatives and side with corporate interests.
Passing a progressive agenda on a state level, including universal healthcare, housing reform, racial justice, and more, is within our power. We need to move the agenda of the Democratic party to better align with the needs of our communities. And we can do this by electing Assembly District Delegates who represent those needs.
The election for these folks is coming up in January. Every district elects delegates—and if you are a registered Democrat, you can vote!
You can vote by mail or in person. You’ll need to decide which way you want to vote and register for that method.
The deadline to register for a vote-by-mail ballot is Saturday, December 31, 2022. Register here. After you register, you will receive a ballot in the mail in January.
The deadline to register to vote in person is Sunday, January 22. Register here.
Voting by mail
Fill out your ballot and mail it back no later than Friday, January 27. Your ballot packet will include a return envelope; it’s not yet clear whether a stamp will be included.
You can register for a mailed ballot and then cast it in person at any ADEM voting site.
Voting in person
In-person voting will take place on January 7 and 8 and January 21 and 22 (all four days are on weekends).
