Grocery and pharmacy store hours in and around San Francisco

Note: This is archived, no longer accurate information.

Businesses are no longer restricting hours or occupancy. As of 2022, stores have gone back to regular hours; at any rate, the most accurate and up-to-date information about store hours can be found on the store’s website or in your favorite maps app.

Under the City’s shelter-in-place order and the Governor’s shelter-in-place order, grocery stores are considered “essential” businesses and are allowed to remain open.

However, many stores have cut back on open hours, and some grocery stores have instituted vulnerable-persons hours, in which the store is reserved for those most vulnerable to COVID-19 (older customers as well as those who are immunocompromised or have chronic respiratory diseases).

In the interest of ensuring people can get the supplies they need, we’ve compiled a list of grocery and pharmacy chains in and around the City, as well as a few other chains like Target that sell groceries and/or have pharmacies, and the modifications they’ve made to their hours, including whatever we’ve been able to find out about vulnerable-persons hours.

You should also check your local corner store. Some corner stores may still have stock that got missed by the rush that occurred in the week prior to the first shelter-in-place orders, and Asian markets in particular have been hit by the double-whammy of people sheltering in place and racism against Asian (and especially Chinese) residents and businesses.

Lastly: Please be forgiving to staff anywhere you shop, and when you order take-out or delivery, tip generously if you can. This time is hard on all of us, including restaurant and grocery workers who are doing what they can to ensure that we all have food and basic supplies through it.
